Water Conservation Workshop: Homestead & Garden
August 27, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Join Sanctuary Forest on Saturday, August 27th for Water Conservation Workshop: Homestead and Garden. This workshop will be led by permaculture practitioner and restorationist Kyle Keegan, Cheryl Lisin of the Lost Coast Interpretive Association, and Tasha McKee, Water Program Director of Sanctuary Forest. The focus of the workshop will be on-the-ground demonstrations of water conservation and storage, as well as best management practices for land and water stewardship. The day will include discussion of meadow groundwater infiltration methods: native grasses, swales, pond and gully repair, a demonstration and actual layout of a swale, one homesteader’s story of water forbearance and water conservation gardening, an example of a rainwater catchment system, native plants landscaping and nursery, and how to build a fir-pole structure. Meet at the Sanctuary Forest offices at 10:00 am and bring sun protection, water, and a lunch. This workshop is free of charge, though donations will be gladly accepted and help Sanctuary Forest to offer this program year after year.
