Return to the River: Another Hike for Kids!
August 20, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
FreeJoin Sanctuary Forest on Saturday, August 20th for Return to the River: Another Hike for Kids. This easy hike is an opportunity for children and their families to learn from Eric & Victoria Shafer and Penny Cocking about native plants, aquatic animals, and the restoration & conservation work being done to improve the river habitat. Come take a walk with us through the riparian forest, see some majestic old-growth redwoods, and splash in the Mattole River. Activities will include: plant identification, the capture, identification and release of aquatic macroinvertebrates, and a 1-2 mile hike upriver. This is an excellent opportunity to cultivate young stewards of the land and river! Meet at Whitethorn Elementary School on Briceland-Thorn Road at 10 a.m.–the hike will conclude at 1pm. Bring a lunch and water, and dress for the forest and the river–don’t forget to bring a parent! RSVPs are suggested but not required. For more info or to RSVP, call 986-1087 ext. 9#. Hope to see you there!
Please note: this hike is replacing our canceled Beaver Workshop hike, originally planned for this date.
