From the Forest to the River: A Hike for Kids Ages 3-6

August 11, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join Sanctuary Forest on Saturday, August 11th for From the Forest to the River: A Hike for Kids. Back by popular demand, this easy hike is an opportunity for young children ages 3-6 and their families to learn from Eric & Victoria Shafer about native plants, aquatic animals, and the restoration & conservation work being done to improve the river habitat. Come take a walk with us through the riparian forest and discover some majestic old-growth redwoods, and play in the Mattole River. Activities will include: plant identification, the capture, identification and release of macro-aquatic invertebrates, salmon artwork, and other hands-on activities. This is an excellent opportunity to cultivate young stewards of the land and river!

  • Meet at Whitethorn Elementary School on Briceland-Thorn Road at 10am–the event will conclude at 1pm.
  • Bring a lunch and water, and dress for the forest and the river–don’t forget to bring a parent!
  • The hike is free of charge, though donations are gladly accepted and help Sanctuary Forest offer this program year after year.
  • For more info, call 986-1087 ext. 9#. Hope to see you there!
  • RSVPs are suggested but not required. To RSVP, click here.
