Led by a Bureau of Land Managment Fish Biologist

“Biggest Little Critters in the Creek,” a free, guided hike to discover macroinvertebrate creatures, will kick off the annual King Range summer hike series on Northern California’s Lost Coast Saturday, June 13, at 10 a.m.

Participants will meet at 10 a.m. at the BLM Wailaki Campground in the King Range National Conservation Area. They will wade into the creek to learn more about these important, tiny organisms. Hikers should bring water and insect repellent.

Macroinvertebrates are animals that lack a backbone, but are large enough to be seen with the naked eye. They are an important part of the food chain and important indicators of water quality.

The hikes are sponsored by the Bureau of Land Management and the Lost Coast Interpretive Association. Information is available at (707) 986-5415. The King Range National Conservation Area is part of the BLM’s National Conservation Lands.  Additional information is available at www.blm.gov/ca/arcata/kingrange.
