Beauty of the Lost Coast Hike

July 29, 2018 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Free

Join Sanctuary Forest on Sunday, July 29th for the Beauty of the Lost Coast: Needle Rock to Bear Harbor hike. This hike will be led by Sanctuary Forest Board member Eric Shafer, John & Susie Jennings, and Marisa Formosa. Participants will be treated to spectacular views of the rugged coastline, abundant wildlife and plants, stories about the history of Bear Harbor and the Sinkyone Wilderness, and an introduction to compass orientation skills and map reading. It is 6 miles round-trip, beginning at the Needle Rock Visitors Center in the Sinkyone Wilderness State Park. Meet at the Sanctuary Forest office in Whitethorn at 9 a.m. to carpool. The hike will end at 4 p.m. Bring lunch, plenty of water, dress in layers and wear sturdy hiking shoes. A sketchbook or notebook is also suggested, and a leisurely lunch at Bear Harbor is planned. The hike is listed as rigorous due to length and a series of rolling and steep hills, however, the trail is wide and in good shape. This hike is free of charge, though donations are gladly accepted and help Sanctuary Forest to offer this program year after year. For questions or clarifications, contact anna@sanctuaryforest.org, or call 986-1087 x 9#.
